Purpose…

According to a US census report, only 16% of Pacific Islanders and Native Hawaiians over the age of 25 possess a college degree. Following the motto, “O ke kahua ma mua, ma hope ke kukulu” meaning “first the foundation, then the building,” Education-1st Hawaii is determined to make a difference in motivating Hawaii’s youth towards a college degree.

Since 2003, we initiated the following programs and helped over 6000 participants and families get motivated to graduate with a college degree. The following are just a few programs that we developed over time.

  1. Kahua ‘Ike After school mentoring program
  2. Project Kahua ‘Ike Fitness for Life physical education program
  3. AVID program, offered as part of the in-school curriculum
  4. Game Plan Academy for Student Athletes (all sports)
  5. Game Plan Football Academy
  6. Monthly Workshops and Chalk Talk Series
  7. G.P.A., Play it Smart T.V. Series on Time Warner Oceanic Cable Channel 16
  8. Game Plan Rugby Academy (New 2011)

  • Speed, agility, and weightlifting techniques taught by University of Hawaii strength coach Tommy Heffernan.
  • Spirit packs, including a T-shirt, practice jersey, etc.
  • Opportunity to experience a college atmosphere at a top rated college campus – BYU-Hawaii. College training tables meals
